Original Wildlife - Pet & Equine Art
Rachel Stubbs
Hello, I’m Rachel Stubbs, a pet and wildlife artist based in beautiful Mid-Devon, UK. I create original paintings and drawings inspired by animals — from majestic horses and wild creatures to much-loved pets. I’m also an experienced sand sculptor, bringing large-scale, ephemeral works to life at festivals and events across the UK and Europe.
Every piece I create is driven by a deep love of animals and a desire to capture their spirit and character. Whether you’re drawn to one of my originals or wish to commission a bespoke portrait, my goal is to create something truly meaningful and lasting.

What do you need from me for a portrait?
A good, high quality photo where the light shows your pet in their true colouring.
If your reference photo has been taken by a professional photographer you will need permission from the photographer for me to use it.
How does payment work?
A 50% deposit at the time of booking, secures your portrait slot. Then the remaining 50% upon completion.
I am happy to offer a scheduled payment plan if that would work better for you, just ask when booking.
Can you use 2 different photos for a double portrait / Can you paint my pets together if the photos were taken separately?
Yes.
Your pets don't need to be posed or photographed together for me to replicate them in art. I can put together a piece using multiple photos and make them look as if they have been posed together.
How should I frame my portrait when I receive it?
I would highly recommend visiting a professional framer and asking their advice on this, as they will be able to guide you in the best method of framing to compliment the piece.
Can I get my deposit back if I change my mind?
No — deposits are non-refundable because I reserve that time for your project and decline other work.

People about my art
My wife surprised me at Xmas with a picture Rachel had done of our English Springer Spaniel, Strider in coloured pencils. I honestly thought it was a photograph at first! It is so beautiful and the best present I have ever received. It hangs over our fireplace in the lounge and we get so many lovely comments when people visit. Rachel takes great pride in her work and communication is superb. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her for her beautiful work.
I found Rachel on Facebook last year and knew immediately that I wanted to commission a portrait. She was prompt with communication. I was able to send her ideas right away of what we were looking for. Working with Rachel was so easy!! She encouraged us to provide feedback as the portrait came together. We couldn't be happier with how it turned out! Having Rachel capture our pups (one of which we lost to cancer) was so special. We will treasure this always!!
